Overload! 2020
Mullingar Harbour Canoe Polo
15th and 16th August 2020
Mullingar Harbour Canoe Polo invite you to the third Overload! training camp on 15th and 16th August, 2020. Registrations close on July 19th 2020.

Event Postponed – Participants please check your email. For questions please contact develop@canoepolo.ie.
Yesterday’s lockdown announcement, just one week before the event, has meant that children from Athy, Tullamore and Kilcock (and many of the volunteers) cannot now attend Overload! next weekend. That’s almost half the children unable to take part.
So with a heavy heart we have to postpone this years Overload! event. We will monitor the situation (government is reviewing lockdown decision in two weeks) and see what we can do to reschedule.
All registered participants will be emailed with details, but for now unfortunately, Overload! on 15th and 16th is cancelled.

What is Overload! ?
It’s all Polo fun all weekend, but with some twists – the event will be packed with Canoe Polo activities – skills, drills, games, races, more games, rolling clinic, paddling clinic, barbecues, burgers, hot dogs, dog races (not the same dogs), canoe polo with obstacles, and some other entertaining activities.
Who is it for ?
The event is open to Canoe Polo players aged 8-18. You must be a Canoeing Ireland or CANI member. This year, to ensure safety while complying with COVID 19 guidelines, participants must ;
- be able to capsize and wet-exit their kayak with confidence (or receive a t-rescue or do self-rescue)
- be paddling as a member of a Club for more than 1 year. If you are paddling less than 1 year, you must have a recommendation from your club coach or junior development coach and contact develop@canoepolo.ie before registering.
- be able to swim 10m with confidence while wearing a buoyancy aid
Unfortunately we cannot accommodate the new beginners/come-and-try session this year.
One or Two-Days
This is a 2 day event on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th August. If you can only make it on one day, that’s fine just select the one-day ticket below to come on the Saturday 15th only.
Something for Parents
This year we are going to build on last years parents session (not sure we will have the tractor tyres, but we will come up with something!) that helps explain how the game works.
Tee-Shirts
As if you needed more, Tee-Shirt is included free for all Juniors. (available for purchase for adults).
Food
We hope to have a barbecue for everyone on Saturday evening in the Harbour and lunch on Sunday.
COVID-19
The event may be a little different this year, with Social Distancing and Hygiene a key part of the safety so some off-water activities may be different than previous years. We will do our best to make it fun and enjoyable, but for everyones safety we will be adhering to HSE Rules and Sport Ireland and Canoeing Ireland guidelines. Detailed protocol will be published prior to the event.
Equipment
This year, there will be no sharing of equipment between participants (kayaks, buoyancies, paddles etc.) – players are asked to bring their own equipment or borrow from their club, and will be allocated a spot to put their equipment between activities. We understand some players may not have personal equipment or be able to borrow from their club- please contact develop@canoepolo.ie and we’ll get you what you need.
Camping
Limited camping space is available for those travelling long distances only (>1 hour drive). You may not camp without registering and will have to follow direction from stewards on where you can setup your tent. You may not set up your tent before 5pm on Saturday and must take down before 10am the next morning. This is to facilitate maximum free space for social distancing during the day. If your children are camping, then parent/guardian will be responsible for them. Social distancing must be maintained and under no circumstance should members of different households camp in the same tent. Camping is subject to confirmation.
Schedule:
Saturday 9.30am-6pm (includes barbecue) (Children will be put in groups – you may be asked to arrive at a different time to limit players arriving at same time)
Sunday 10.00am – 4pm (includes lunch)
Cancellation
This is a volunteer run event (not an airline!). If the event is cancelled, for example due to COVID related Government Restrictions, we will re-arrange it for another date and apply any money paid to that new date, or at your option, send you a tee-shirt in lieu of participation.
Payment:
Please select ‘Paypal or Credit Card’ from the options below (do not select ‘Pay Offline’). This will direct you to a paypal payment processing but you do not need a Paypal account- you can select ‘Pay be Credit Card or Debit Card’.
