2019 Canoe Polo Ireland Competition Application

The National Committee are looking to formulate the 2019 calendar as early as possible this year, to help in the organisation and marketing of all Irish competitions for the 2019 season.

Additional efforts will be made to increase the quantity of travelling teams to all Irish Canoe Polo events and to help to continue the redevelopment of the sport within Ireland.

The National Committee are also looking for Clubs to host the Irish International Open and the Irish Club Championships

The Club Champs is the qualifying event for the 2019 ECA Canoe Polo Club Championships where all Canoeing Ireland Clubs battle it out for the honour of representing Ireland on the European Stage. The 2019 European venue is still to be announced.

The host will organise and run the competition to the standards set by the national committee and complying with the ECA’s requirements. All profits go to the organisers however if qualified teams travel to the European Club Championships entry fees must be forwarded from the organiser.

The Irish Open is our biggest international competition of the canoe polo calendar which the National Committee organise and run with the help of the host club. The Committee are looking for a quality venue to host the Irish Open and would require a lend of facilities. This is the committees best way of generating funding to help develop and run the sport in Ireland.

If your Club is interested in organising it own competition or would like the opportunity to host the Irish Club Championship or the Irish International Open in 2019 please email comps@canoepolo.ie with the name of the competition, the rough dates that you would like to hold the competition on and the proposed location of the event. If all applications could be in by November the 1st it would be much appreciated.

Extension: Coaches and Manager Positions for Squads

Canoe Polo Ireland would like to Extend the deadline for applications for the roles of coach or manager of the following squads:

Senior Women
U21 Men
U21 Women

Position applied for
Qualifications and experience in Canoe Polo in said position
Skills and qualities one can bring to the position
Aspirations and goals for the squad
Brief outline of how you plan to achieve your aspirations and goals.

Role of the Coach:

Must treat everyone equally and sensitively regardless of his/her gender, ethnic origin, cultural background, sexual orientation, religion, or political affiliation.
To look after the physical, technical, tactical and mental preparation of the Squad’s Development Canoe Polo Squad/s for International and Domestic competitions.
To utilize the support of other qualified personnel in the preparation of the squad where required upon ratification by the National Canoe Polo Committee (NCPC) Chairperson.
To organize training sessions in conjunction with the Manager of the squad.
To finalize selection criteria for European competitions and submit to NCPC for ratification.
In conjunction with the manager to deal with any disciplinary matters arising within the squad.
To treat all members of the squad/s and NCPC with dignity and respect.
To present any grievances to the committee should they arise.
To abide by the Canoeing Ireland Child Code of Conduct for the Protection of Children and as such agree to adhere to the principles and responsibilities embodied in the code. (U21 SQUADS)
To make best efforts to ensure athletes adhere to the Canoeing Ireland’s (CI) Athletes Code of Conduct.

Role of the Manager:

Must treat everyone equally and sensitively regardless of his/her gender, ethnic origin, cultural background, sexual orientation, religion, or political affiliation.
To look after the administration and management of the Irish Canoe Polo Squad(s) for International and Domestic competitions.
To manage the financial affairs and to keep detailed records of all financial transactions.
In conjunction with the Coach to deal with any disciplinary issues arising within the squad.
To report to the NCPC Chairperson any disciplinary issues arising within the squad.
To submit a short-written report to the NCPC at the end of March, June, September and December.
To present selection criteria for the squad for European competitions by the end of March to the NCPC for ratification.
To present names of team members for European competitions for ratification by the NCPC at agreed times.
To keep detailed records of all international competitions, results and members of teams for duration of term as manager.
To present squad goals and aspirations (in conjunction with the Coach) by the end of March to the CI NCPC Chairperson.
To provide the CI NCPC PRO with information for Press Releases.
To ensure that all (athletes and management) members of the Squad sign the National Squads Athlete Agreement by agreed date.
To liaise with the other Managers of the CI NCPC National Squads.
To present any grievances to the committee should they arise
To abide by the Canoeing Ireland Child Code of Conduct for the Protection of Children and as such agree to adhere to the principles and responsibilities embodied in the code. (U21 SQUADS)

– Please study the entire timetable (not just your division), as you may be on Table Duty or Refereeing a lower division than the one you have entered.
– There is a separate tab for each Division.

Captains and Referees – IMPORTANT !
– Captains & Referees are to assemble at 8.00am on Saturday Morning at the Boathouse in the Harbour for a meeting with the Head Referee(Sean Downes) and Organisers.
– A number of steps are being taken to improve Refereeing and Player Discipline. Your Captain and Referees MUST attend this meeting.
– Under competition rules, if your Captain and Referees do not attend, your team will start your first game 1-0 down. If you have an insurmountable reason why you cannot attend (e.g. flight arrival time), please email develop@canoepolo.com looking for a written waiver.

CI Numbers – ALSO IMPORTANT !!
Per my previous email a couple of teams have still not replied with their player CI numbers. Canoeing Ireland Insurance requires that we check these numbers so unfortunately unless you provide these before the competition, your team will not be playing 🙁

Pitches
· Div 1, 2 and U14 games will be played in the Harbour (pitches 1 and 2)
· Div 3 games will be played above the bridge (pitch 3).

Parking
· On Saturday, please do NOT park in the ‘TopLine’ hardware store car-park on the bridge, or down the Cul de Sac near the bridge.
· There is parking along the Harbour, and in the Railway station car park and in the car parks on the north (town) side of the harbour. There is also a lot of free space at the old Kellys Garage site.

Toilets
· Toilets are at the Scouts Hall, which you can access by going down the steps near Pitch 3.

Food
· Free Tea and Coffee will be available in the Scouts hall 10am-4.30pm each day. You can access this by going down the steps near Pitch 3.
· On Saturday we will have free Soup and Rolls available between 11am and 3pm in the Scouts hall.
· On Sunday we will have a free Barbecue between 12pm and 2pm.
· Sunday Barbecue location will be advised – depending on weather !

Camping
· Camping is at the Kilcock GAA Club . Google Map Location : https://goo.gl/maps/Mcb9XzhCden
· There will be onsite security at night time only – DO NOT LEAVE VALUABLES UNATTENDED
· Under 18s are not to camp unaccompanied.
· If you intend to avail of the free camping but have not let me know, please do so now.

First-Aid Contact
· Every pitch has a pitch manager, if you need first-aid or have any other query, please alert the pitch manager who will organize first-aid/assistance.

Restaurants
· Kilcock GAA/Camping site has a restaurant and bar.
· O’Keefes (on the harbour) – pub food – Saturday 11am-10pm, Sunday 11am-9pm
· Blackforest bakery (on the Harbour) Saturday 9am-5pm
· Timeless Café (opposite Tesco – in Kilcock Village) Sat 9am-5pm, Sunday 9am – 4pm
· Rye River Café (near Supervalu –The Square, Kilcock Village) – Saturday 9am-5pm, Sunday 9.30am-2.30pm
· Costa Coffee (near Supervalu – The Square, Kilcock Village) Saturday and Sunday 7am – 7pms

Ireland 🇮🇪 5 – Chinese Taipei 4

The Irish U21 Men win their first match of this years World Championships after another fight back.

The Chinese went 2 nil up in the first few minutes after a few handling errors by the Irish. It took a well worked move and a strong shot from the Irish captain Oisin McKay to get a goal back. The Chinese were looking to move the ball fast up the pitch after a break down in Irish play and forced a penalty which was converted to put them two goals ahead.

Before half time the Irish returned with a break away goal themselves working the ball through a disrupted defence and Caleb Bowden drove down the right side and skipped past a couple of defenders before burying the ball from a tight angle.

There was quite a wait at half time as one of the goals needed a repair and this gave the Irish a good oppertunity to regroup for the second half and it was the Irish that were putting on the pressure to start, a well put together move where the play was quickly switch from the right over to Kevin Quinn on left who fended of the Chinese zone to score the equaliser.

The Chinese were awarded their second penalty after they broke away, there was deemed to be a paddle foul and and the Irish were down by 1 with 3 to minutes to play.

But the Irish showed that never give up attitude and with the Chinese reduced down to 4 men after a series of paddle fouls Oisin found space down the right to bang in his second goal of the game and tie the score up for the second time in the game.

With the Chinese still short a man the lads pushed man on and stripped the Chinese and Kevin Quinn broke free to score the winner.

Well done lads and congrats on your first ever World Championships Win. Enjoy it and push on with the last two games of the tournament and get a couple more under your belt.

Busy Competition Season Continues

Here is an update on upcoming competitions and national events over the next couple of months in the Irish Canoe Polo Calendar.

Belfast Argento Cup – this one day competition on August 3rd for Juniors is the second competition in the Argento Sponsorship, following on from the Kilcock Junior competition earlier this year. Find out more and register your teams here.

Club Championships – This years club champs is run by Royal Canal Kayak Club in Phibsborough on 11th and 12th August. Find out more.

Kilcock One Day Competition – this one day competition has Div 1, 2 and 3 and will be similar format to the one day competition in July. Register your team here.

Junior Development Weekend in Mullingar, 1st and 2nd September. This is open to any junior who can paddle and promises to be an exciting event in the new venue of Mullingar Harbour.

Irish Open Returns to Kilcock

The 2018 Irish Open returns to Kilcock Harbour. Just outside Dublin, with excellent transport links and free camping available, Kilcock is looking forward to welcoming you once again to this exciting competition with a great atmosphere – the perfect way to end the 2018 Canoe Polo outdoor season. This year will be special, with Kilcock celebrating its 20 year anniversary as a club.
International Teams are invited to come and participate for free (no entry fee and no charge for camping).
4 DIVISIONS
There will be 4 Divisions – Div 1, 2, 3 and an Under 14 division for younger players.
VENUE
The competition venue is right in the centre of the town with easy access to coffee shops, convenience stores, supermarkets, takeaways and pubs. We will have 4 pitches for a weekend of non-stop Polo.
FREE CAMPING
Free camping will be available at no cost at the local GAA Sports club, a 10 minute walk or 5 minute drive from the venue. Overnight facilities including toilets, showers etc. will be available.
FREE FOOD & REFRESHMENTS
Food and refreshments will be available free of charge at the venue for all registered players. Sunday barbecue !
GETTING THERE
Kilcock is just half an hour from Dublin Airport and an hour drive from the Dublin Port ferry, or 2.5 hours from Belfast.
INTERNATIONAL TEAMS
Fancy a weekends polo away from home ? For teams visiting from outside Ireland, we will do our best to make it easy for you…
* Free entry fees – for all international teams
* Free camping – at nearby campsite with good facilities
* Pitch equipment – We will have dedicated pitch boats (XP3s) and equipment available for shared use, for teams coming from outside Ireland. Let us know in advance what you need and we will do our best.
* Airport Pickup – If you are arriving on the Friday night, let us know in advance and we will collect you at Dublin Airport.
